In March 2003, the secretariat held discussions with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification during the eighth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on their joint Liaison Group and a meeting of core team members of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Biological Diversity and Climate Change was organized in January 2003. The secretariat works with the Joint Liaison Group to strengthen cooperation in the implementation process of the Rio conventions in order to move towards more concrete modalities of substantive cooperation in line with JIU recommendations.
